In the wake of Proposition 8 being passed in California, eliminating rights of same-sex couples to marry, I found myself living with a great deal of sadness. Sad that the vows my closest friends would make, would be nothing but words to the state of California. Passing this proposition, excluded an entire community from the benefits so easily obtained by any straight legally married couple. What made one group any different than the other? Do we not all love the same?
As the movement to overturn Proposition 8 was still being fought, I created this collection to show my support of the LGBT community, my friends, my family, and my country. This is my visual representation of what America stands for. A reminder that we can peacefully co-exist and that sexual preference has no barring on ones character. Take pride in where you come from and let there be no limits to who you are. In 2010, a federal court ruled Proposition 8 unconstitutional, it was time to celebrate and in the eyes of our government, we are equal!
As gay pride month comes to a close, I wish the LGBT community a safe pride weekend. May you never stop waiving your flag and sharing your light.
